Board Certified Virginia Oral SurgeonDr. James F. Nelson grew up in Denver, Colorado. He graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1973 and earned his D.D.S. degree from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia in 1977. In 1978, Dr. Nelson completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery internship from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia. He received his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery certification in 1981 from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia. In July of 1981 Dr. Nelson joined the Practice.
LeadershipDr. Nelson is an honorary member of numerous professional organizations. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Richmond Dental Society, has been an Alternate Delegate of the Virginia Dental Association, past Delegate of Virginia of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the President of the Richmond Dental Study Club, and the President of the Virginia Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Virginia State Board of DentistryDr. Nelson is registered and licensed as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon from the Commonwealth of Virginia. Community/VolunteerDr. Nelson is a member of the Reveille United Methodist Church. Dr. Nelson donates his professional services through the VDA Donated Dental service organization. HonorsDr. Nelson is a member of the Pierre Fauchard Society. In 2000, Dr. Nelson was honored as Richmond’s top Oral Surgeon by Richmond Magazine. On a personal noteDr. Nelson enjoys spending time with his family, his wife Kaki and their three grown children. He thoroughly enjoys the game of golf and recently scored a hole in one. His special interests are snow skiing, fly fishing and cooking.
