Virginia Oral Surgeon

Dr. Kimberly S. Swanson grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1981 and earned her D.D.S. degree from the University of Iowa in 1986. She did a General Practice Residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore from 1986-87. Dr. Swanson received her Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Certification in 1991 from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia. In 1995 she joined our Practice.

Dr. Kimberly S. Swanson is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, certified since 1994.

Leadership

Dr. Swanson is a member of numerous professional organizations including American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, Richmond Dental Society, Southeastern Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, Virginia Dental Association, and Virginia Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. She is a past President of the Richmond Dental Society and is the past President of the Virginia Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Virginia State Board of Dentistry

Dr. Swanson is registered and licensed to practice as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Community/Volunteer

Dr. Swanson donates her oral surgery skills to the Mission of Mercy (MOM) Project during their Wise County, Virginia mission trip. Locally, her professional services are made available through the VDA Donated Dental Service organization. Dr. Swanson also volunteers her skills through the Virginia Dental Association “Give Kids a Smile” program. Outside of oral surgery, Dr. Swanson offers her time and energy as a volunteer to the Richmond SPCA and the Doberman Assistance Rescue and Education program.

Honors

Dr. Swanson was honored to receive the Who’s Who in American Colleges award. She is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society, Phi Beta Kappa Society, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Dr. Swanson was also awarded Fellowship in the Virginia Dental Association.  In 2006, she was inducted into the American College of Dentists.

Dr. Swanson currently holds staff appointments at Henrico Doctors, St. Mary’s, Chippenham/Johnston Willis, Children’s Hospital, Stony Point Surgery Center, and the Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia.

On a personal note

Dr. Swanson enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, reading, doing volunteer work with animals and walking her dog, Cara.

Fun Facts about Dr. Swanson: She is the first woman Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and she was the first woman President of the Virginia Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (VSOMS). She is also the first (and still only) female member of the Southeastern Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (SSOMS).
