Board Certified Virginia Oral Surgeon

Dr. Michael E. Miller was born in Miami Beach, Florida and grew up in Hollywood, Florida and Lynchburg, Virginia. He graduated Valedictorian from Old Dominion University in 1980 with a B.S. degree in chemistry and earned the University Outstanding Scholar Award. He began his studies in 1980 at VCU/MCV School of Dentistry, graduating as Valedictorian of his class and earning his D.D.S. degree in 1984. Dr. Miller completed his four year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery also at VCU/MCV in 1988. Dr. Miller began private practice in 1990 and in 1992 he joined our practice.

Dr. Michael E. Miller is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, certified since 1990.

Virginia State Board of Dentistry

Dr. Miller is a licensed dentist and is registered and licensed to practice as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Leadership

Dr. Miller is a member of numerous professional organizations and is proud to have had the opportunity to serve as President of the Virginia Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is active in the Southeastern Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons as well as a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Locally, Dr. Miller is an active member of the Richmond Dental Society having served on its board of directors; as a member of the Virginia Dental Association he has served as delegate, alternate delegate, and as a member of various committees. As a member of the American Dental Association, Dr. Miller is Co-Chairman of the ADA Grass Roots Political Organization for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Dr. Miller is honored to have been selected by his peers to the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, and to fellowship in the Virginia Dental Association.

Community/Volunteer

Dr. Miller donates his skills to the Mission of Mercy Project in Wise County, Va. through the Virginia Dental Association. His participation in the VDA Donated Dental services program has helped numerous less fortunate patients throughout the Richmond and surrounding areas. As a member of the Innsbrook Rotary Club, Dr. Miller has worked with other community leaders in benefiting the lives of others especially children at the Youth Emergency Shelter, Cole Pit Learning Center, and the Virginia Home for Boys. Dr. Miller and his family are members of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

Hospital Privileges

Dr. Miller currently holds staff appointments at most area hospitals including St. Mary’s Hospital where he is Chief of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery section under the Department of Surgery. Additional hospital appointments include Henrico Doctors Hospital, Chippenham Johnston Willis Medical Center, and Children’s Hospital, as well as the Stony Point Surgery Center.

On a personal note

Outside of his practice with Commonwealth Oral & Facial Surgery, Dr. Miller spends time with his wife Dr. Benita Miller, a Richmond Periodontist, and daughter Anne. He enjoys the game of golf, has a special interest in music (Piano & Guitar), and loves travel, scuba diving, physical fitness training, as well as an occasional game of tennis.
